When I made this map I wanted to show how unique the world was through my map. The Empire has a race of cat men in the south that I put in a large mushroom forest in the middle of the swamps

There are also plenty of ruins scattered throughout the world so I added small icons to represent ancient cairns and other decrepit structures. I wanted the map to be as diverse as the people it represented so I made each relief icon by hand, using Procreate to make a hand-drawn map that reflected my world in the way I saw it.

The map itself is supposed to be a guide for merchants and adventures of the dangerous wilderness. I labeled each town so people can ask for directions, and I used the icon for the town to signify what the town was known for, as well as adding docks to the port cities. I carefully added to the map key as I went so I wouldn’t miss anything.

Design Culture Now

DES 200 Digital Page Design I

This poster was designed for the “Design Culture Now” event in New York. I used the title’s type to fill in the empty space at the top, contrasting with the bottom where I listed the speakers. Here I instead embraced the empty space, using careful spacing to create a dynamic feel.

I wanted the poster to feel light on the eyes so I used only two colors. using a light bluish green to contrast the black. the colors warred against each other in a way that caused both to seem less intense.

I used a lot of empty space in the bottom half to contrast the dense top. I wanted the top to draw in your eye by seeming more intense. To make it feel denser I played with the sizing as well as orientation of the type. I also added the location on the side, and turned it so it fills the space to the right of Culture Now.

This poster aimed to be both easy on the eye , but also using intensity to draw in the eye. In the end that idea, however contradictory it may have been, ended up working.

White Throat

DES 225 Design Systems

This project was aimed to create a beverage with 3 variants. I saw the oppurtunity to tie this in with my celtic heritage so I made a scottish alchohol brand named white throat. The name ties to a legend of the white trout form W.B. Yeats Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry. I also took inspiration from the legends f my heritage for thew name of the variants.

For the variants I had Fear Darrig, which is a leprechaun like figure (translated to Red Cap) that plays gruesome pranks on people who enter old castles and soaks its cap in their blood. I used this for the scotch. For Atholl brose I used the Fear Gorta or Man of Hunger who goes through the land in times of hunger looking for alms and bestowing good luck on those who oblige. For the last one, mead I used the Cluricaun who is another leprecaun like figure that raids your cellar to get drunk.

I used various inspirations from historical artifacts like the Book of Kells and Book of Durrow. I also did research into the figures to write a small poem for each.

Poems

Fear Darrig:
If ya wander into my home, invade my turf, or offend me, do not mind my red soaked cap or the trail of blood. I won’t harm ya. I only ask that you give me respect and don’t question my every whim, for that will surely offend me. now that we know each other, why dont you tell me your name?

Fear Gorta:
I wander. Through the plains I seek those who give me pity. I only ask for some alms. I'm starving and haven’t eaten in days, spare some food to eat? thank you kind sir, may I ask what your name is?

Cluricaun:
Come hither mortal and drink with me! not will I harm you! do not mind the empty bottles, I’ve been drinking away! of course it isn’t yours, I'm not a thief. perhaps you can help me? what’s your name?

Rosy Cheeks

DES 200 Digital Page Design I

At Rosy cheeks we aim to create an inclusive and easy to look at environment. We use light colors such as pastels to create a bright atmosphere that is also easy to be in. We want everyone to feel welcome, including those with sensory issues and anxiety. Rosy cheeks should be inviting above all else.

Our colors reflect the rainbow of colors on the gay flag, though shifted into easier colors to look at. We use rose as our logo to represent love, meaning all sexualities are welcome. The interior should feel welcoming and should be easy to be in without it being overwhelming.
