PSU GD Doodle
DES 224 Story and NarrativeThis little GIF was for my class, Story and Narrative. The goal was to create a small doodle for the PSU design department. Trying to mimic the sketchy and light-hearted style of the Google Doodles.
The project established basics in motion and GIF format creation. I started in procreate and used their animation function to create a 3 frame animation that I then uploaded to Giphy.
Miku Supports You
DES 210 Digital Imaging & IllustrationThis poster's idea came to me when I was looking up Hatsune Miku Posters to buy, and I noticed something. Miku's colors mimic the colors of the Trans flag. Being trans myself, I decided to expand on this idea for my Digital Imaging and illustration Course.
We started a project that was to make a 3 color poster that could be printed via risograph. this meant that unlike screen printing I could use gradients and different shades of a color. I took inspiration from those tacky military posters that have the jets flying towards the camera, but using the trans flag instead.
I first sketched out the design on paper and then transfered a rough sketch into the digital world. after some refinement I added colors, using the same colors as the trans flag, with the blue pink and white, and with some black for accents and stuff. I did the MIKU bu hand and for the "supports you" I used Copperplate with wide kerning.
A Magical World
DES 224 Story & NarativeMaking a world filled with your own characters is an exercise for your brain. people have long created their own worlds to day dream about when they’re bored.
this book may not allow complete freedom to create from scratch, but hopefully it can help provide a start for something bigger, whether it be a setting for a book or game.
Fantasy has long had roots in dreams. To me fantasy represents things people dream of. A reality where we can control the world as if we were in a lucid dream.
Magic represents our own wishes. It allows us to create and destroy as we wish.
Mercury Cover
DES 210 Digital Imaging & IllustrationIt started off with some small sketches but ended with both a cover and a layout test.
I started this project with some small thumbnail sketches to get my bearings. I then went digital and scanned in a drawing I made. I then made it transparent so I could change the background color more easily and the outline itself. I wanted to play on the idea of justice on the cover. I decided to take a Libra approach to it and draw a woman split in half, one side gnarled and beaten, the other pristine and healthy. I added a simple shape behind her to frame the subject and add some depth and then added the blurbs around it.
Uirsgeulan
DES 210 Digital Imaging & IllustrationThis is a calender of folklore for the 2022 year. I drew different beings from various Gaelic folk tales, such as selkies, leprechauns, and banshees. I used the Scottish Gaelic names for most creatures. I used the font Keltichi which takes inspiration from the book of kells.
